OSTENIL® pain relieving injection

Ostinel®Plus is a pain relieving injection for the symptoms of osteoarthritis. It can be used in the knee, or in any of the other joints in the body that are classified as ‘synovial’. An injection of Ostinel®Plus can effectively decrease pain and stiffness and improve other symptoms of osteoarthritis. Joints affected by osteoarthritis typically have lower concentrations of hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid, the thick liquid that helps cushion and lubricate the joint. As a result, the synovial fluid in osteoarthritic joints has lower viscosity and elasticity than healthy synovial fluid, decreasing its ability to lubricate the joint and absorb shocks.

How does OSTENIL®PLUS work

It is injected directly into the space in the joint that contains the synovial fluid and works by restoring the normal balance in the joint. It works by restoring the normal balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid within the affected joint. The effect is that it can decrease pain and stiffness, and improve the other symptoms of osteoarthritis.

OSTENIL® has been given to thousands of patients worldwide, it is well tolerated and effective.

The procedure

The injection needs to be administered, by your Consultant directly into the space in the joint that contains synovial fluid.

You will probably not notice any benefits immediately after the first injection, but you should gradually start to feel less pain and stiffness over the next few weeks.

The improvement in your symptoms should last for several months.
