Father Edgar
The problem really was my knees, I have had osteoarthritis in both knees for over ten years, one knee slightly worse than the other. It was very painful, especially at night and I found it disturbed my sleep and sanity. I had almost made my mind up that I did not want knee replacements, it would have taken too much time out of my working life and you also don’t know how successful it will be at my age. With my work I need to be mobile, I need to be doing Church work such as weddings and other ceremonies. It affected me quite a lot, especially going up and down stairs which was extremely painful. As the pain gets worse it also affects my mobility. I also found it deterred me to do some normal day-to-day things such as visiting family in Ireland.
A physiotherapist, family friend had the treatment herself and was very enthusiastic about the results in seeing alleviation of pain and increased mobility. It was the constant aching and impact it could have on my quality of life that prompted me to follow up the Lipogems treatment. Upon visiting the clinic, my meeting with Mr. Khakha was very informative and relaxed. He explained the process, what it entails and the terrific future possibilities are for this treatment. On my procedure day, I met with the theatre team and underwent some light sedation. I was conscious but was very comfortable. The entire process went very smoothly and I was delighted with how it went. Now having had Lipogems, I can honestly say that 3 days after having it done, I was back to my normal activities, which was remarkable. And after a week or so, it was feeling even better. My flexion of the knee improved and I could walk further. But the big advantage was the reduction in pain at night-time. Since I’ve had it done, I’ve been doing a lot more work and can walk greater distances.
It is still early days, but I already feel like it’s given me a new lease of life. As a Priest, I never used to kneel at all but now I can, so that is an improvement definitely. Genuflecting is now something I can do which, I found more difficult before, if not impossible.
I would certainly recommend this procedure for two reasons. It removes the choice of having knee replacements and it allows you to return to your day-to-day activities in a very short amount of time.
It was also so easy, so relaxed, that I couldn’t imagine anyone being put off by it. It was really straightforward and virtually no pain. I would say in my experience, it was marvellous.
